Imagine your worst day, multiply it by a hundred, and pray to your God that you never experience what some of the people in this war zone go through, everyday, without any hope of it getting better. Ever. Compared to these people, every day, no matter how bad, is 'the best day ever'. I know nothing about pain, nothing about suffering and hopefully never will.
“As hard warm rain
thrashed at ourselves
and a pair of goats, we
stood precariously on
an unknown slope deep
in the heart of Africa,
for once my heart and
mind agreed, I would
never live a better day.”
– Hendri Coetzee
BE PART OF THE STORY...
Whether it was tackling
a dangerous rapid at flood stage, swimming through crocodile-infested waters and crossing an international border to get to a party, or chasing pretty young tourists, Hendri did it all with equal parts dedication, madness, and passion.
I look back on my life and I see that it is only in these moments that I have truly lived. My memories seem bigger, more real in these circumstances: the good times, the friends, the hard times, the lows, the awe and wonder I have felt. I know I am here by choice, and am glad I am here. I can be nowhere else.
The subject matter in
his journal regularly vacillated between ‘finding’ himself, the meaning of life, and adventure as an addiction. He would often write about death, being ready to die versus his fear of dying, and even ironically foretold his own eventual fate…
This is the true story of the greatest African explorer you have never heard of. Hendri Coetzee embarks on a series of increasingly outrageous adventures in search of the best day ever.
